About Seattle

Seattle has a hotel market with a split personality. From October through May, downtown towers practically compete for your business and rates can be remarkably soft. Then summer arrives, the cruise ships start loading for Alaska, and the same rooms triple in price between June and September. That seasonal swing is exactly where member rates earn their keep β€” the big public booking sites show one set of summer prices, and members see a different set. The difference is meaningful some nights, more modest others, but in cruise season it's almost always worth checking.

The city itself rewards a walkable home base. Pike Place Market is the postcard, but the real Seattle experience is the layering: a morning at the market, a ferry across Elliott Bay in the afternoon, oysters in Belltown at six, and a band on Capitol Hill at ten. On a clear day Mount Rainier floats over the southern skyline like a special effect, and half the city's rooftop bars are oriented around exactly that view.

Our Travel Editor's Seattle advice: if you're cruising to Alaska, book your pre-cruise night as far ahead as you can β€” those summer Saturdays near the waterfront sell out first and cost the most. And don't fear the shoulder season. A drizzly Seattle weekend in October, with coffee shops and the market mostly to yourself, is one of the best value city trips in the country.

Who's it for?

Ferry rides at sunset, a market-to-table dinner scene, and moody waterfront hotels make Seattle a sneaky-romantic city. Book Belltown or the waterfront and walk everywhere.

Top Neighborhoods

Downtown

The retail and convention core β€” big towers, easy light-rail access from Sea-Tac, and walking distance to nearly everything a first-timer wants to see.

Pike Place

Steps from the market stalls, the fish throwers, and the original coffee crowds. Rooms here trade square footage for the best location in the city.

Belltown

Seattle's restaurant-and-cocktail district just north of the market, with boutique hotels and an easy walk to the waterfront and cruise terminal.

Capitol Hill

The nightlife and live-music neighborhood up the hill β€” fewer hotels, more character, and the best late-night food in the city.
