Miami, FL
The cruise capital of the world.
PortMiami handles more cruise passengers than any other port on the planet — over five million a year. Pre-cruise, South Beach and the Brickell waterfront put you in the middle of one of the country's great cities. The Art Deco district, Wynwood's murals, and some of the best Cuban food in the US are all within reach before you board. Post-cruise, a Miami night is the best possible soft landing after a week at sea.
Port Canaveral, FL
Kennedy Space Center's backyard — and a major Florida cruise hub.
Port Canaveral is Florida's second-busiest cruise port and the home port for Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival sailings to the Bahamas and Caribbean. Cocoa Beach is a five-minute drive from the terminal, and Kennedy Space Center is fifteen. If you've never seen a launch pad up close, the pre-cruise day here is some of the most unique pre-travel time you'll spend.

Port Everglades processes over four million passengers per year and is the home port for most Caribbean and transatlantic cruises. Fort Lauderdale Beach is ten minutes from the terminal, with a long stretch of mid-range and luxury hotels, walkable A1A restaurants, and a nightlife strip that doesn't require you to be in South Beach to have a good time. For travelers flying into South Florida, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport is often the closer and cheaper arrival point.
Seattle, WA

Seattle's two downtown terminals — Bell Street Pier and Smith Cove — handle all Alaska-bound cruise traffic: Inside Passage sailings to Juneau and Skagway, Glacier Bay itineraries, and round-trip Vancouver routes. Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and some of the country's best Pacific Northwest seafood are walking distance from Bell Street Pier. Seattle is genuinely worth two nights before you sail — one to arrive, one to explore.
Galveston, TX

Galveston is the primary cruise port for Texas and the entire Gulf Coast — the only major North American port where you can board a Caribbean cruise by driving from home. Galveston Island's historic Strand District, its Victorian architecture, beach strand, and surprisingly good seafood restaurants make it worth arriving a night early just for the town itself.

The combined Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach forms the largest cruise terminal complex on the West Coast. Mexican Riviera itineraries, Hawaii voyages, and Alaska repositioning cruises all depart from here. Long Beach's waterfront, the permanently docked Queen Mary, and straightforward freeway access to greater Los Angeles make it the natural West Coast pre-cruise base.
